Wildlife

The Isles of Lewis and Harris hold wildlife that is hard to see anywhere else in Britain. Both golden eagles and white-tailed sea eagles breed here, otters work the shoreline, red deer are on the hills of North Harris, and the machair supports breeding waders including corncrake, lapwing and oyster catcher.

The best time for most of it is early morning and late evening between April and August. If you are trying to work out which eagle you have just seen, our guide to telling a golden eagle from a sea eagle covers the differences.
