Talla na Mara

Talla na Mara is a community-owned centre located in the Isle of Harris. The name “Talla na Mara” means “Centre by the Sea” in Gaelic. The venue offers stunning panoramic views of the Atlantic Ocean, with the golden sands of Nisabost beach and the mountains of North Harris as a backdrop.
This year Talla na Mara is operating as a community café as like many hospitality businesses on the island we tackle staffing challenges. This means that the Talla na Mara menu has been simplified to serving homemade soup and sandwiches, alongside locally sourced tea and coffee and home baking and crucially, profits can be re-purposed to achieve local ambitions.
Talla na Mara is staffed with a mixture of local staff and amazing community volunteers who are ready to welcome you on your visit to Talla na Mara. And, with almost everyone serving you from West Harris, it really is a great chance to immerse yourselves in the local community!
If you have visited Talla na Mara before, this may be a little bit different, but we hope that you appreciate and enjoy the warm welcome that awaits you.
The gallery at Talla Na Mara features artwork from local artists and craftspeople. Visitors can find a variety of works, including paintings, photographs, ceramics, textiles, and other handmade items. The gallery serves as a platform for local talent to exhibit and sell their work, contributing to the creative community on the Isle of Harris.
