The Isles of Lewis and Harris hold wildlife that is hard to see anywhere else in Britain. Both golden eagles and white-tailed sea eagles breed here, otters work the shoreline, red deer are on the hills of North Harris, and the machair supports breeding waders including corncrake, lapwing and oyster catcher.
