The Western Isles sit far enough north and far enough west that summer sunsets run very late indeed, and in June the light barely leaves the sky at all. The west-facing beaches of Harris are the best places to watch it, with Nisabost and Scarista both looking straight out past Taransay into open ocean.
In midwinter the opposite is true: the sun is barely up, but the low light across the sand lasts most of the short day.
