The sea is never the same twice on this coast. On the west, the Atlantic runs uninterrupted from North America and the water over the shell sand turns turquoise in sunshine and slate grey within the hour. On the east, the Minch is a narrower, darker channel between Lewis and the mainland, and it behaves quite differently.
